‘You can’t go wrong with off-season Athens with a good smattering of the greatest hits of archaeology’ – a guided Greek odyssey

After getting out of the habit of taking breaks abroad, a busy, varied week was just the tonic

There are two types of holiday people. Some look forward to them all year, take delight in choosing the destination, perfecting the details and basking in the anticipation. And then there are those that gradually stop making time for holidays, losing touch with the habit like an old friend they know they should call, but never do.

Somehow over the years I found myself in camp B. It can start off gently, a “We’ll just stay at home and do the jobs this year”, or a “We can’t be too far from the hospital” or concerns that you just can’t both secure the same weeks off and before you know it, it’s been quite a few years since you’ve done anything outside visiting family.
