Arklow councillors have called for urgent action to address an emergency accommodation crisis in the seaside town that has left those who are homeless and living in “unsuitable conditions” facing a daily struggle of “uncertainty and constant trauma”.

Although the completion of the Arklow Wastewater Treatment Plant has set the wheels in motion for residential development on a grand scale, the Viking town’s non-existent rental market, lengthy social housing list, and dearth of emergency accommodation have left it locked in a housing crisis in the interim.
