Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 9pm on Monday following the serious incident on Railway Street, Balbriggan, Co Dublin, in which a pedestrian was struck by a car.

Gardai have sealed off Railway Street in the town pending a forensic examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau which was due to commence this morning.

A blue garda forensic tent could be seen at one end of the street nearest the railway station, covering where the incident happened and where the man's body still lay until a preliminary examination by a pathologist.

Access to the railway station was unaffected, but there were some diversions for traffic in the town.

It is understood gardaí are following a number of lines of inquiry in relation to the incident.
