‘Dad always assured us that his second marriage late in life wouldn’t stop us inheriting the farm but now we are really worried it will have to be broken up’

Query: Dear Mary Frances, I read your articles every week and love the advice you give – and now I’m hoping you can help me and my siblings. My father re-married late in life, after our mother died, and he always told us that it would not impact him leaving us the farm between us.
We are his two adult children and the farm was our mam’s. We were all in agreement that it would be the right thing to do to keep the farm in the family, and we had talked about putting it in a trust to keep it in the family down the line.
